I thought Sam Frost was pulling my leg. Sam said there were some guys going around claiming 1 John was written to Judaizers and Gnostics. Surely Sam couldn’t be serious, but serious he was as validated here. http://www.facebook.com/groups/fullpreterist/permalink/10150800773118657/?comment_id=10150803534733657&offset=0&total_comments=32 Dale, a hyperpreterist of four years, justifies his absurd position by asking, “How many believers do you know who claim they don’t sin?” Evidently Dale didn’t comprehend the implication of Allyn’s question, “‎Sam Frost, what does the High Priest Jesus need to keep doing after he has already done it and said it was finished?” http://www.facebook.com/groups/fullpreterist/permalink/10150800773118657/?comment_id=10150803036493657&offset=0&total_comments=32 One of the reasons Christ Jesus is the Priest of the believer is that He intercedes on their behalf because they still sin which is what John states they need to confess. The author of Hebrews explained, “he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself. For the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints ...

At the beginning of the year, the elders at my church began a series in Genesis. This past Sunday we finished verses 1-8 of chapter 6 and are now heading into the flood story. I don’t remember why it came up, but as i was discussing this chapter with some brothers Sunday afternoon, i had mentioned that there is a large chiasm in the flood story. I thought i would take a moment in highlighting this chiasm for them and anyone else interested. Some of you may be thinking, “ok..cool. But what exactly is a chiasm?” Glad you asked. ( : According to my trusty Pocket Dictionary for the Study of New Testament Greek, a chiasm is defined as follows: n. A literary device in which words, clauses or themes are laid out and then repeated but in inverted order. This creates an a-b-b-a pattern, or a “crossing” effect like the letter “X” (χιασμος, “a making of the letter χ”). Also called inverted parallelism. [p.29] Some theologians, like James Jordan, would contend with that last sentence by arguing that a “Chiasm differs from ‘inverted parallelism’ by having a central pivot-point that in some way is the most important aspect of the structure. Inverted parallelism, consisting of ABBA, may not have such a central point (unless BB is also a pivot or the more important aspect of the overall section).” [1] Regardless of how one should classify an inverted parallelism, both definitions would fit with what i believe we find in the flood story. ...

That activity notifier in the upper right-hand corner of Facebook can be a blessing and a curse. haha. I don’t randomly visit “Full Preterist” pages on FB anymore and so the only way i know if a battle involving my name is going on (which seems to be common nowadays) is if a friend comments somewhere and i happen to be online and notice the update. Looks like Jeff Vaughn has decided to pick another fight with Sam, after Sam linked to my testimony, Why I Left HyperPreterism. Jeff says: Neither you nor Jason ever got Covenant Creation right. Are you still telling people that we believe Gen. 1 occurred at Sinai? It was very tempting to join the group and go at it with Jeff, who seems to have a terrible memory or is intentionally deceitful, but i had to resist. I have learned a thousand times over that Jeff is always right and we are always wrong. Even when he admits he is wrong, he’ll backtrack once he thinks people have forgotten about it. There is no sense in wasting time with such a person. However, i would like to set the record straight for those that visit here and are witnessing that fiasco on FB. In that testimony, i criticized Covenant Creationism as erroneously teaching that “Genesis 1 is no longer about creation. It’s about the formation of Israel as a nation.” This was the remark that led Jeff to say that i have never understood Covenant Creationism. The fact ...

Dr. Kelly Birks recently claimed he shared the same view as Dr. Murray Harris regarding what Phil. 3:21 is conveying. Dr. Birks claimed, “Phil. 3:21 says, Hos metaschematizo to soma tes tapeinoseos emon…. “Who will effect a transformance (by transferal) of our body of humility….” Dr. Birks, when questioned for support of his “translation” of the text and corresponding claim responded with, “Murray J. Harris, “From Grave to Glory.” Go read it. His position is my position.” Dr. Birks then quoted Dr. Harris from his apologetic work “From Grave to Glory” which was written as a response to Norman Geisler’s critique. Dr. Birks wrote, “Here’s a quote from Harris’ book on Pg. 201..”In stressing the dissimilarity between the present body and the future body, Paul uses two basic formulas: the physical body may be said to be transformed into the spiritual body or to be replaced by the spiritual body. That is, there are two distinct but complementary ways way of describing the resurrection change- metamorphosis and exchange.”, and then followed that up with, “Also, see Pg. 238… “Although the link between the physical body and the spiritual body is not in identical material particles, there is a a real continuity between the two in that the same ‘person’ finds expression in two successive but different types of body. When the physical body is transformed into or replaced by the spiritual body, personal identity is preserved.” Frankly, Dr. Birks is less than forthright regarding the position of Dr. Harris. The ...

Had a dream I was alone A vast expanse of complete unknown Sea of glass so clear it shown, Like gold Then a voice like thunder clapped, As a dead man I collapsed I am the first, I am the last, Now rise my son Then behold ten thousand kings, And every creature worshipping Every eye was on one thing, One man He’s like a lion like a lamb, As though slain he holds the plan To make war and peace with man, And reign on earth Holy, Holy, is the One, Who was and is, and is to come In a robe as red as blood, He comes forth Ride like lightning in the sky, On a war horse he draws nigh, The same one we crucified, Will return again Video by Evan Mann Story Behind Video: My wife managed a homeless shelter, and along with it, a modest food bank. One day someone arrived with multiple boxes of shaving cream, all different brands, to donate to the shelter. This person was a family member of a man who suffered with alzheimer’s disease and had recently passed away. Apparently this man had purchased a can of shaving cream every time he went to the store, thinking he had run out. After nearly a decade, there existed a stockpile large enough to sustain a beardless army of grown men; a surplus too grand ...

I was informed today about a Facebook conversation centering on my recent hyperpreterist book burning video. Apparently, the “Dr” didn’t like it. …I can’t believe this. I think Jason Bradfield has truly lost his mind… …The hypocrisy of these “former” HP’s is mind boggling. What they’ve all done is nothing more than simply cave in to those who have “gone before” because they want “something else” from the evangelical/reformed community. Mostly acceptance from them and approval…. But this knee jerk kind of a stunt by Bradfield is really not something I thought he would ever do. I don’t agree with everything that Preston and King wrote (some of the books he burned), but there are sitll many good exegetical facts contained in those books. If hes consistent, Bradfield will start burning other books as well. Will he make it habit now and burn other forms of theological expression that he disagrees with? See how emotional he is by this act? And then completely taking Acts 19:19 (this is what his new hermeneutic has taught him to do, evidently. i don’t think the “reformed” would approve), out of its context and applying it to HP!!! Huh? So, HP’s and their writings are now equal to those who practice magic and witchcraft, I guess. Very poor, poor form…. …Sam…. Give up, brother! You’ve made a wrong choice by apostasizing from the teachings of Christ and the apostles and jumped onto a ship that has been sinking for the last 1800 + years. ...

Going back over some material by Philip Mauro, I found many excerpts that are right in line with much of present day scholarship and my own view. First off, Mauro was one of the few that took Daniel 12.2 as refering to the Era of Messiah and not to the “general resurrection” (although he did hold to the idea – he just didn’t get it from this text): “The words “and many that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,” etc. are commonly taken as referring to the bodily resurrection of the dead, and this is one reason why the entire passage is frequently relegated to the future. But there is nothing said here about either death or resurrection. On the other hand, it can be abundantly shown that the words “sleep” and “awake” are common figurative expressions for the condition of those who are at first oblivious to the truth of God, but who are aroused by a message from Him out of that condition. Isaiah describes the people of Israel as being under the influence of “the spirit of deep sleep” (#Isa 29:10); and again he says, “the people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined” (Isa. 9:2), which words are declared by the evangelist to have been fulfilled by the personal ministry of Christ in Israel (#Mt 4:14-16). Paul paraphrases another word of Isaiah (#Isa 60:1) ...

While I was at work the other night, a thought came to my mind. I have been struggling with how stupid Eve and Adam were to fall for such an obvious contradiction to what God had said. “Don’t eat of this tree. You will surely die.” The serpent comes along and says, “you won’t die.” And we are supposed to suppose that Eve said, “duuuuuh, right.” This has always bothered me. The problem is how Adam and Eve, creatures made in God’s image, could be so emipircally and rationally stupid. God said this. The serpent (created by God to be subtle) says this. And the two newly created boneheads say, “okay”. Chomp. Not so easy. Just how smart were these two “image” of God beings supposed to be? Eve was “deceived”, we are told in Paul’s midrash. Adam rebelled. You don’t rebel unless you have a good reason. America didn’t rebel against England for a “duh.” They had good reason. Adam was a rational soul. He knew God. He knew the commandment. Eve repeats it to the serpent. The serpent responds, “you won’t die.” What was he implying here? Think about it. God just made you. You are in His image. He has given you the command to be fruitful and multiply. Do you honestly think he is going to kill you? Defiance. Of course God is not going to kill us. He just made us. What? Is he going to start again? Make another pair? We are His first pair! ...

When defending presuppositional apologetics, someone almost always appeals to Acts 17 to argue that Paul would not have started with the Bible when addressing pagans who did not accept the testimony of Scripture. “You have to work them up to that”, so they argue. One individual (he whom we shall not name) even went so far as to make such an argument from Acts 17 under the label of “Historic Presuppositionalism”. He claimed that “Scripture is for the initiate.” He not only fails to understand Presuppositionalism, but fails to understand just what exactly Paul was doing at the Areopagus. I have entertained the thought of writing a response off and on over the years, but usually get caught up in something else and forget about it. Well, today i stumbled upon a great video from Voddie Baucham who does an excellent job of addressing whether or not Paul was trying to “adapt” to the Athenian culture. I don’t think there is much else i can add to this, so i’ll leave it at this:

I recently wrote this on Pret Blog: “You know, going back over the centuries, in the early church fathers, reading them combating the Gnostics, sounds a lot like today. I realize people don’t like what they percieve as “fighting amongst yourselves”. But, that’s not it at all. We are fighting amongst those who CALL THEMSELVES members of the Historic Faith. Now, we must be careful here, because on one hand, they may, in fact, be among “one” of those “whom God has called”. True. This is the impercetible will of God. However, there is also the perceptible definition of members in the Faith – a defined, historic, visible community. In order to defend “the Faith” one must mark out what that Faith is (define it). When those who wish to call themselves as members of that Faith, when they, at the same time trample over the fundamentals of that Faith, cannot be called “visible” members. If this is the case, then one has introduced a relativistic attitude of sorts. In common parlance, “watering down”. So, with all of this “tit for tat”, what are the real issues here? Resurrection of the dead. Bodily appearance of the Lord. The body of the Lord. Our progressive sanctification, indivdually as well as the corporate, towards glorification. A final assize. A final, full, visible realization of the Glory of Jesus Christ “on earth as it is in heaven”. A defense of God, “who raises the dead” (Dt. 32; I Sam 2; II Kings 5). ...

God is Truth. His word is Truth. However, when think of God, we cannot “image” him. There is no representation of him. The Father is invisible. In heaven, we shall see Jesus, however. However, what we see here is the “man” Christ Jesus, who walked on earth, and is now glorified in heaven (from which he shall come again at the last day). Yet, when we think about God, His nature, and the triunity of His being (one God, three Persons) we can only express this in terms of propositions and logic. It cannot be imaged, pictured, geometrically framed (like three circles interlocked, or a triangle or even a shamrock). It is purely a propositional, or epistemological thought. It is entirely non-empirical. Truth, therefore, is not imaged. It is thought. Truth is propositional because knowledge of God is propositional. All that is required in terms of trinitarian theology (and Diety of Christ theology necessarily connected to trinitarian theology) is that the statements be logically non-contradictive. And this is exactly what Athanasius set out to do. The same is true in terms of “sovereignty” and “responsibility.” Psychologically, or, in terms of “cause and effect” (imagining the relationship between A and B), this has vexed a good deal of Christian souls. We “picture” things like “puppets”, “robots”. But, these are inadequate. The Bible uses the image of “pottery” and the “potter” – but even here, the image is very limited. Clay pots don’t think and have no volition. Neither do puppets. However, ...

Recently, my good friend and brother, wrote, “It is painfully obvious that you have NEVER had a good grasp on orthodoxy to begin with…” Larry Siegle, another good friend, was “astounded” by this. What’s “astounding”, however, is that Mike Bennett’s statements go by unchecked. Paul never said he didn’t “care” for the creeds or orthodoxy. Never said it. Didn’t even imply it. Where’s Dave Green? Now, what Jason is saying is true. I did not have a good grasp of the very orthodox notion of the “continuing incarnation” of Christ. That is, Jesus still has his body “in heaven.” I didn’t see the issue as important. I taught that Jesus was “something like spirit.” Wink. Boy, was I heretically and terribly wrong on that one. Jason’s comment, however, will be used and pressed to its most absurd literality and will be used to show that Jason is, basically, a kook. But, let’s look at how Sullivan and Bennett have thrown around the term, “orthodox” or “orthodoxy”. Apparently, they equate the term with exegetical intricacies and commentaries. For example, Daniel 12.2. Since a great deal of commentaries see this as the “general resurrection”, then it is “unorthodox” to suggest that it is not meaning this. Really? Says what creed? Where is the Council that decreed: “and, if anyone useth Daniel 12.2 as saying it is not the general resurrection, let him be anathema.” Can’t seem to find that one. Maybe this is what Jason meant. You do not know what, and ...

I understand Mr. Michael Bennett is attempting to, in a serious manner, get some questions answered. We will attempt to provide answers to Mr. Bennett’s questions though I believe the answers have already been provided. Mr. Bennett asks, - Was Jesus sub-human for 3 days? No, Christ Jesus was a dead human for three days, (1 Cor. 15:3,4), The distinguishing feature of his humanity having expired laying in the tomb, although His spirit/soul returned to the Father as He stated and which Paul later explained, “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”, (2 Cor. 5:8) I wonder why Mr. Bennett would presuppose a dead human is a sub-human. Mr. Bennett continues, - If eternal life has time texts (it does) and souls already have eternal life and eternity has “no sequence of events”, can souls get future bodies? Seriously, I’m not sure about the concept of “future bodies” that sounds like something a pagan would propose in advocating transmigration of the soul. What the Bible teaches is the resurrection of the self-same body, “… the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality” (1 Cor. 15:52, 53), Christ Jesus referred to the event as being raised on the LAST DAY, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.” (John 6:44) Seriously, ...

Mike, Dorothy, Ed and Roderick are having a good laugh at their spin of recent events. And, since Mike Sullivan is taking “snippets” from my emails and posting them, I shall set the record straight and expose this liar for who he is. This won’t be hard to do. First off, my email to Mike Sullivan: Mike, As I have stated (and as you intially agreed), I will have a formal written debate with you based on a Resolution format with two alternatives (both for and against) so that we have a four part written debate. My proposal is this: Propositions for the debate are: Samuel M. Frost will affirm the following: Resolved: The Bible Teaches that the “man, Christ Jesus” is the Paradigm for the resurrection of the dead in our self same bodies at the Last Day. (You will oppose this). You can propose your own Resolve for the follow up. In other words, I give mine, you give the Rebuttal. You give yours, I give the Rebuttal. And that’s it. We have to agree on page limits. Since this is taking a valuable part of my (and your) time, and since I have a professional degree, I seek those who wish to read this debate to pay for it. Your time is worth it, and so is mine, and I find no scriptural injunction against such (anymore than I have a problem with Don Preston “being paid” for his work, in that I have hosted two conferences with Don ...

One of my passions is to help equip Christians to be on the offensive with the faith; instead of cowering to the militant atheists and whimpering in a corner, thinking that they are not “intellectual” enough to battle. Many Christians fail to evangelize out of fear. They are afraid that they are not ‘smart’ enough, or can’t ‘debate’ well, so on and so on. And many apologetic methods encourage this fear, because they leave the Christian with thinking that they have to become a PhD in this or that subject in order to be effective. Apologetics does not need to be this hard. Once truly understood, it is actually quite easy. The only real ‘hard’ part about it is that it may require you, not them, to think differently about the nature of God and how this whole redemptive plan works. The good folks over at Crown Rights Media have provided this recorded lecture that i pray will encourage and embolden you to get on the offense; for how then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? (Ro 10.14 ESV)

Samuel Frost and the Westminster Confession By Dr. Kenneth Gary Talbot I have known Samuel Frost for over 10 years. We are friends and we do disagree on many theological issues. I am Reformed and he is not. I am covenantal and he is not. However, we are agreed on Apologetics. I was a student of Dr. Gordon Clark, and Samuel was trained in Axiomatic Presuppositionalism. He knows the system well. We are both young earth creationists and I greatly appreciate his defense against the mislabeled ‘covenant creation’ theory. However, when Samuel writes universal statements like this one posted at SGP, I cannot help but respond in kind. Knowing that he is my friend, that we are both looking forward to the ‘debate’ over Preterism, I know he would not mind me responding to his rant on the “Westminster Confession and errant doctrine.” Samuel Frost, in trying to deal with the issue of the heretical charge for his Hyper-preterism quotes the Westminster Confession of Faith, stating: “The word “may” is subjunctive possibility. It is a logical introduction of possibility. Once that is allowed, the door is thrown open. Here is a statement that has been quoted in every Creed, Council or Synod: “He shall come again to judge the living and the dead.” According to the Westminster Confession, this statement “may” err. Perfect logical deduction. This conclusion is unassailable.” Here is the syllogism: 1st Premise: “All Councils….may err.” 2nd Premise: “He shall come again was formed within the Council” Conclusion: ...

I was greatly encouraged to see a website come on the scene by Doug Wilkinson (http://premillpreterism.ning.com/). Like Duncan McKenzie (and J.S. Russell), this view understands the so called “1000 years” as the current church age. Yes, Virginia, there will be an eventual end of the world. There is still unfulfilled prophecy out there. Quite encouraging to see others develop this line of thought that takes them out of Hyper Preterism. However, gnostic-like tendencies and redefinitions of “death” and “resurrection” are retained. In other words, I Corinthians 15 is fulfilled! However, if we take Wilkinson and McKenzie we do get the idea that the Millennium is now, and the “end” of the thousand years is future. If we combine that with Ed Stevens, another Hyper Preterist, we find that he has the Mustard Seed Parable as speaking of our own church age and growth. Stevens wrote, “This is an ongoing process. Some of Jesus’ parables talk about the small beginnings of the Kingdom and its phenomenal growth afterwards” (What Happened in A.D. 70?, 33). Now, Max King and Mike Sullivan do not hold to this view. King wrote that the Mustard Seed Parable is the small beginning of the kingdom’s coming, and the end (AD 70) growth (Cross and Parousia, 17). It does not extend beyond AD 70. Well, we have two sets of Hyper Preterists here that are inconsistent. Which one is correct? If we combine Stevens with McKenzie, we get kingdom growth beyond AD 70 that will have an ...

After spending a great weekend with some saints down in Florida, i have been *indirectly* challenged to redeem my time for things more important and productive than arguing back and forth with hyperpreterists. As i drove back up to TN, all i could think about was what a shame it would be for me to kick the bucket soon, stand before the throne of Christ, and have nothing but a bunch of internet rants with confused hyperpreterists to present at his feet. There are so much more important things to be done and bigger giants to slay. Hyperpreterism has not even proven its theory to begin with and the only people it has any relevance for are the half-dozen restorationists running around on a few ning sites…so why bother? As Gary DeMar once noted, “Let the FPs battle among themselves, and when they come up with a unified FP paradigm, then it will be time to respond.” The middle part of that quote will NEVER happen. I’m done trying to nail jello to the wall. So, to ‘officially’ mark this phase of my life, i’ve emulated some old saints in Ephesus. ( :

…millions of Christians from across the globe will put all their differences aside and proclaim, in unison, to the rest of the world, the undisputed fact that full preterism is false and a slippery slope to damnable heresy. You can mock, scream, insult, spit, whatever you want…but today the Israel of God will testify against you. Yahweh has not left you without witness. Happy ‘Hyperpreterism Is False’ Day! Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come ...

Stumbled upon a website today called Living the Question: about a realized Kingdom, completed Salvation and covenant Eschatology. Browsed around a bit. Typical hyperpreterist nonsense with the even more nonsensical covenant creationist twist on everything. The Church is in error. The Creeds are wrong. Blah, blah, blah. Folks, the more i go back and read hyperpreterist rhetoric (including my own past stuff), the more and more i come to the realization that this is a school of thought ran mostly by theological neophytes. I know…hard pill to swallow by those who pride themselves as “teachers of the law”, but eh…what else would you call them? My throat is still soar. Here’s an example: This is Part 2 of a sermon I recently preached and discussed with folks at church regarding how the terms “heaven, earth and sea” are often used to describe convenantal – not material – realities in the Bible’s redemption story. Here are examples where the term “heaven and earth” seems to be describing the people of Israel. Gen 2:4 “These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens”. This word “generations” is used 39 other times in the Old Testament. It is only used of people and family geneologies elsewhere in Scripture. As in, “these are the generations of Noah…” or Jacob. Another example, Dt 32:1, God’s often repeated rally cry, “Hear oh heavens and listen oh earth to the ...

I wasn’t allowed to footnote Max King when we wrote, House Divided, by strict orders from Dave Green. We wouldn’t want any controversy, right? If you are one of the ten that bought that book, check it out yourself: not a single mention of Max King, even though we all endorsed the “corporate body” view, and Green even spends a few pages identifying himself as such. Go figure. Wouldn’t want to mention Max “the Universalist” King, would ya? Now, Green promotes King by recently quoting him. Kingite-Green quotes, “If nearly twenty centuries of a New Covenant have redeemed only half of man (his soul), while the other half (the body) is still under the power of death, is the New Covenant God’s fulfillment of the promise? If God remembers sin no more in New Covenant times (Heb. 8:12), why does sin continue to ‘sting’ the body but not the soul of man? If ‘the sting of death is sin,’ (1 Cor. 15:56), why won’t God’s New Covenant forgiveness remove sin’s stinger from the body as well as the soul? If the cross fulfilled the law in its fullness, why does sin still have strength when ‘the strength of sin is the law’ (1 Cor. 15:56)? If God gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (v. 57), why has it turned out to be a split victory of soul salvation now and body salvation later?” (Max King, The Cross and the Parousia of Christ, 95). Kingite-Green apparently cannot see ...

Recently, Sharon Nichols, a former Hyper Preterist, brought up the issue of the “Great Commission”. “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them inthe name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Supposedly, in the Hyper Preterist world, this ended in AD 70. By that time, “all nations” were “discipled” and were “taught” by the Apostles. Go figure. But, that’s what we are to suppose, using “audience relevance” of course. Far be it from this statement to be a rooted in the Prophets that foresaw a massive expansion of Christianity beyond anything that resembled even Solomon’s days….after all, one “greater than Solomon” was present, bodily. But, we will go with this supposition and allow that “end of the age” here is the “terminus” for the Great Commission. We have to keep in mind that this ended in AD 70, and supposedly “baptism”, too. Since a large number of Hyper Preterists no longer believe in the “sacraments” of Baptism or the Lord’s Table (!), a question concerning evangelism and disciple making naturally arises: why do they still preach, post AD 70? A typical anwer given to this is that the Prophets foretold of it. Ah…now the Prophets kick in. Jesus Mission—–>preach the Gospel to all nations——>Baptize all nations—–>Disciple all nations——->AD 70 (end of the age). Then, add “healing of the nations” ...

As I a former Hyper Preterist, I used to jump off my chair when I read scholars that, in my framework appeared to be saying the “same thing”. For example, I am reading Tom Holland’s new Romans commentary. Having written a now shelved (and being re edited) commentary myself, Holland’s view of corporality, Sin, Death, “in Adam” and “in Christ” (code for old covenant, new covenant) were gold nuggets. However, Holland is about as far away from “covenant creation” in Hyper Preterism, and Hyper Preterism itself. We cherry picked. Simple as that. Of course, our standard reply was, “man, they are so close to our view. The only reason they don’t see it is because of the creeds.” Lame response, indeed, but it worked for a time. Fact is, having a sound grasp of Josephus and Preterism (orthodox Preterism), has changed the landscape of scholarship. One cannot read Romans (the actual letter) without a backdrop of the social tension brewing between Rome and Jerusalem – a tension rooted in OT prophecy – and the tension between old covenant and new covenant. It’s there. Holland is able to write that the “Western” reading of Pauline theology has largely missed this backdrop. I agree. We talked about “holes” in orthodox eschatology before. There is a unified Christian eschatology in terms of what theological historians call, “the essentials”. These “essentials” make up orthodoxy. The details, however, the grime and dirt of minute particles in Greek and jots of Hebrew exegesis are not uniform. ...

Hyperpreterism is a pessimistic eschatology. One of my first encounters with hyperpreterism was their redefinition of the term “all things”. I was informed that Peter’s claim found in Acts 3:21 didn’t include the “physical” resurrection of the dead in Christ[i]. “…Jesus, whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago.” Acts 3:21 I was astonished at the claim of the hyperpreterist. Indeed in the popular publications of hyperpreterists we are told, “You cannot logically say the Curse of Adam was physical death”[i] Some hyperpreterists thinking themselves wise have become fools[ii] employing the term “biological” to denote the distinction between what they claim is “biblical” death and that which distinguishes a live versus a dead human body. Hyperpreterist claim the eradication of disease, disability and death for humanity is not part of God’s redemptive plan. This brings us to the point of the blog. In John chapter 11 we find the Creator confronted with human death. God incarnate whom Scripture tells us made everything[iii] is confronted with the death of His friend Lazarus. Just prior to when Christ Jesus emphatically, “cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.”[iv] Scripture explains, “Then Jesus, the anger again welling up within him, arrived at the tomb. It was a simple cave in the hillside with a slab of stone laid against it.” John 11:38 MSG Odd, don’t you think? Why if according to the hyperpreterist “physical/biological” death is ...

I went into the movie with very little information. My sons, a twin Siskel and Ebert machine, knew a little more. I was thinking The Running Man (Stephen King); a televised kill-as-many-as-you-can context in a Socialist controlled, post-apocalyptic world. What I got was The Hunger Games; a televised kill-as-many-as-you-can context in a Socialist controlled, post-apocalyptic world. Sans Arnold Schwarzenegger and Richard “survey says” Dawson. Instead of Dawson we get Seneca (Wes Bentley). Yes, the Roman name – think Rome. Donald Sutherland plays the President, although that’s President as in the Russian “President” or “President Chavez.” You get the idea. The people are sheep. The Pigs are the rulers, and the gaurds are the dogs, just like the good Pink Floyd album, Animals (which, ironically, is against Capitalism). Basically, the story is about some “war” that happened in the States a long time ago. It was a rebellion of sorts that was eventually put down by the government. These rebel “districts” (12 of them) produce the goods for the Messianic State (and so the prolateriat are needed). But, their existence is squabble and barbed wire. Each year, in order to “appease” the Messianic State, they have to offer a teenage boy and girl to the Hunger Games – a televised fight ...

Well, this little post caused a quick flash. We had several “answers” to it. Covenant Creaiton. Universalism. And, of course, Mike Bennett’s answer: “Did Man start inside or outside of the Garden? OUTSIDE / GOD PUT HIM IN. - Did God block the way to the tree? YES (SEPARATED / OUTSIDE). - Did God say that the gates to the NJ are opened? YES NEVER TO CLOSE. - Do all men come through or do some remain outside? SOME REMAIN OUTSIDE SEPARATED. - So what are these mean who remain outside even with the gates removed? SEPARATED. .So in Sam’s view when death is completeley defeated at the end of history what is separating man? Oh ya – same issue as he accuses us. Oh – but maybe death is actually physical death for Sam. Yet there is a resurrection of both just and unjust – and neither will ever physically die again. Go figure. Apparently phyiscal death has no grip on the unjust either in Sam’s view.” Mike’s answer, though, which pretty much used to be mine, is based on the flawed Hyper Preterist “fulfillment” package. It can be defeated rather easily. Before I go into a brief response, let us first understand one of the parts of this argument: if “death” is destroyed, universalism results. Since, in the orthodox scheme, death is destroyed in the future, would universalism result? Answer, no. But, this is not what I am arguing. I am not saying, “since death is destroyed, universalism ...

On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever. 6 The angel said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.” 6 Then he said to me, These words are faithful and true.” And the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to show His servants the things which must shortly take place.
John Noe has created one of the largest marketing campaigns for a Full Preterist (FP) that I have seen to date. His last book, Hell Yes? Hell No!, published by his own arm, East2West Press, equally garnered some press. No, it won’t be on the NY Times Bestsellers list, but maybe on the FP one, anyhow. Noe is clearly trying to break out of the market by limiting his books to AD 70 (a trap that is damn near killing the movement as a whole). For that, my hat is off to Noe. He is at least attempting to tackle other issues in the Christian encyclopedia rather than just the same old FP pabulum of Nero, “this generation”, and “some standing here.” What are the ramifications of the AD 70 doctrine in other areas of systematic theology? Noe takes a stab. First, I have known Noe for many years, and we have spoken at many conferences together. I even occassionally run into him at the Evangelical Theological Society conferences. We had differences when I was a FP, and you can bet your bottom dollar we have them even more, now. Noe was teaching his “many comings theory” (as we called it) along with the idea that the charismatic “gifts” were still for today. This is almost anathema in the FP circles I ran with in those days. And, Noe felt the brunt of this, claiming that he was not a FP. Lot’s of FP are doing that these days. Duncan McKenzie ...

Basically, I’ll just take Miano’s last post and break it down, showing that he does not interact at all with what we have presented, and that he does not interact with the text. Clearly, there is a “cram it all into AD 70″ framework going on here. Therefore, “resurrection” CANNOT possibly be a resurrection of bodies. This MUST be kept in mind for this debate. Let me repeat: AD 70 is the TERMINATION of all prophecy. I Corinthians 15 is prophecy. Therefore, I Corinthians 15 MUST BE fulfilled in AD 70. Since, obviously, the resurrection of bodies did not happen in AD 70, then Miano is FORCED to READ INTO this chapter his AD 70 presuppositions what others in the history of the church prior to Hyper Preterists NEVER saw. MIANO: “Let us consider the context thus far. We have people in the church at Corinth who are saying there is no resurrection of the dead (v.12) which was the hope of Israel (Acts chapter 24). The church in Corinth as well many others, began to see the distress of division between the gentiles and jews. A feeling of Gentile superiority ran rampant, and therefore the ressurection of the dead (the hope of Israel) is being misunderstood, or even denied as we see here.” FROST: This is oversimplification. I ought to know, since I used this very same argument. What, again, is missed is that resurrection of the dead, the “hope of Israel”, BEGAN ALREADY with the Messiah of Israel, ...

10 Reasons to Believe in a Historical Adam In recent years, several self-proclaimed evangelicals, or those associated with evangelical institutions, have called into question the historicity of Adam and Eve. It is said that because of genomic research we can no longer believe in a first man called Adam from whom the entire human race has descended. I’ll point to some books at the end which deal with the science end of the question, but the most important question is what does the Bible teach. Without detailing a complete answer to that question, let me suggest ten reasons why we should believe that Adam was a true historical person and the first human being. 1. The Bible does not put an artificial wedge between history and theology. Of course, Genesis is not a history textbook or a science textbook, but that is far from saying we ought to separate the theological wheat from the historical chaff. Such a division owes to the Enlightenment more than the Bible. 2. The biblical story of creation is meant to supplant other ancient creation stories more than imitate them. Moses wants to show God’s people “this is how things really happened.” The Pentateuch is full of warnings against compromise with the pagan culture. It would be surprising, then, for Genesis to start with one more mythical account of creation like the rest of the ANE. 3. The opening chapters of Genesis are stylized, but they show no signs of being poetry. Compare Genesis 1 ...

SLUTS WITHOUT SHAME! by: Don Boys, Ph.D. Since the Fall of man, the earth has been cursed with women (and men) who used their bodies in illicit ways. They have been called loose women, prostitutes, whores, fallen women, and sluts; however, in earlier days, there was a sense of shame and disgrace in their activities. Even Hollywood lowlifes tried to be discrete. While “slut” is considered offensive, so is the lifestyle. When I was young, if an unmarried woman got pregnant, she was sent to “visit her grandmother” for a few months. The family still loved her, wanted the best for her, forgave her, but there was a lasting sense of shame. But those days are long gone. Society calls it “reproductive freedom” but God calls it whoredom; and status, beauty, money, and education don’t change anything. Yes, any of our unmarried daughters can get pregnant and it is a heartbreaking situation, but when it happens again and again, the young woman is a slut, whether she is my daughter or yours. Of course, getting pregnant doesn’t make her a slut, being sexually immoral does. Sex outside of marriage is always wrong. It is not illegal to be promiscuous, male or female; but a recent graduate law student has shocked the nation by her advocacy for slutism. Her audacity and lack of shame are appalling. While she did not admit to casual sex, she did plead the cause of sluts everywhere. Loose women and men who sleep together take the ...

Editor’s note: In this article, Mr. Kauffman (PCA) evaluates the teachings of Keller, Brown, and Tchividjian (also PCA) on progressive sanctification, and limits the terms of the discussion to those identified in the Westminster Confession of Faith, Chapter 13, “Of Sanctification.” In this article, the term sanctification, when used by Mr. Kauffman, is in reference to the sanctification described in Philippians 2:12-13. In the midst of the New Perspective/Federal Vision/ Auburn Avenue controversy in 2005, Bryan Chapell, President of Covenant Theological Seminary, provided one of the most penetrating criticisms of New Perspective exponent N. T. Wright: Wright avoids outright denials of Reformation theology, but introduces unanswered questions (particularly since he seems willing to define faith as faithfulness) that are inappropriate for one as theologically skilled and influential as he.[1] The facility with which new movements can stoke confusion by redefining terms or making opposites equivocal, is breathtaking. Perhaps the reader will recall Cornelius Van Til’s defense of Norman Shepherd, explaining that in John 6:28, “faith and works are identical. Not similar but identical.”[2] We can all be thankful for Bryan Chapell’s clarity when he finally weighed in on the issue. A similar controversy is brewing in Reformed circles, but with a new twist. Instead of alleging that our personal holiness in sanctification participates in the final verdict of justification, the new view (occasionally called the “Grace movement”) appears to allege that justification completes our sanctification; that is, the holiness of sanctification is that same righteousness that was already secured for ...

Recently, Jason Bradfield was attacked for being “unchristlike”. I was called a son of satan (which is funny, since the Hyper Prets don’t believe in satan anymore). Recently, the bewildering mind of Edward Hassertt offers this about me: “Only in your lying mind. You can’t seem to even tell the truth about yourself. You have degraded into a lying librarian. You are insignificant and now becoming worthless. It amazes me how you think lying is ok, and justify it constantly! You are pathetic.” And we hear not a peep from his cronies. I would like to separate out these folks from other Hyper Prets: Ed Hassertt, Dave Green, Mike Sullivan, Jerry Bowers, Allyn Morton, Thom Greenlee, Jerel Kratt, Roderick Edwards (who joins in with these like minded men) and Mike Bennett. It’s just these folks, really, that most of the venom comes from. John Scargy occassionally rises to their level, but for some reason, we still have a bantering about back and forth that at least contains the occassional “thanks” and “you’re welcome.” Jeff Vaughn will call every once and a while and it is, for the 99th percent part, quite cordial and friendly (even in disagreement). Larry Siegle, Jen, his able-to-stand-on-her-own wife, Michael Miano, Wanda Short, heck, I could list a bunch here, have not quite gone off the deep end as the ones mentioned above. I can enjoy a round with Norm (which is occassionally friendly), or several others like Micah or Tim Martin. They don’t seem to be so hell ...

This article is written in opposition to the proposition of certain Futurist and Preterist theologians that Paul had one of Jerusalem’s temples in mind while penning Hebrews 9. In Hebrews 9, Paul is not writing about the necessity for Herod’s Temple to be destroyed by Roman armies. Nor is Paul claiming that the final day will not come until the temple is rebuilt in Jerusalem at some distant time. Paul is not claiming that Herod’s Temple stands in the way of the full establishment of the New Covenant. Nor is he teaching that a future temple must be removed to pave the way for the full establishment of the New Covenant for Israel. Ward Fenley is one representative within the hyper preterist community of the mistaken usage of the figure in Hebrews 9 in contention that the new covenant blessings would not come until Herod’s temple was destroyed in AD70: “Some would say that the Old Covenant was completely done away at the cross, but the writer of Hebrews teaches that this was a process about to be completed at the destruction of the Temple in AD 70.. The writer is referring to none other than the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple by God through the Roman armies: Hebrews 9:8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all is not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle is still standing:” Do We Look For Another // “The sheer fact that they could not ...

The supposed evidence for hyperpreterism lies in the phrase “there shall certainly be a resurrection.” Here the Greek words behind “there shall certainly be” is mellein esesthai. Since the base word mello can mean “about to,” this statement is thought to demonstrate that Paul stated that the resurrection is “about to” happen. This is a misreading of Paul.
Nothing deep. Just some quick thoughts i had this week inspired by Gary DeMar’s God and Government series. My departure from hyper preterism has renewed my interest in postmillennial and theonomist writings, so lately i have been digging out some old books that i had buried in my shed. I started re-reading DeMar’s three volume set in January and finished it last week. I highly recommend the series, especially for homeschoolers! One of the points that Gary made over and over again is that he who determines the law is god. Of course, there is but one God and He has revealed His law to us. Yet, when we reject this law and create our own, we have in essence replaced Yahweh with a “god” of our own making. This was the sin in Eden. The serpent raised doubts concerning Yahweh’s Law and encouraged Eve to be a law unto herself, so that she would “be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Ge 3:5) This cosmic reversal gradually finds its ultimate expression in a divine and messianic state; a state that seeks to control and govern every aspect of our lives according to its self-proclaimed authority. And as Del Tackett has mentioned in the “State” portion of his Truth Project series, this sphere of government has the potential of becoming the most dangerous because it “bears the sword.” With all of this on my mind, i was listening to my new Word of Promise audio bible and the nature of the ...

Mr Michael Miano has recently replied with the following to my apology video: Here we have a great example of a man using his feelings and an appeal to emotion to persuade people from a view of fulfillment. So let’s get this straight, the Full Preterists provide Scriptures and explanations and are met with name calling and appeals to emotion. The reformation is now, ask questions and demand Scriptural answers. search the Scriptures! Mr Miano clearly does not understand the purpose of the video, but that is besides the point. In my opinion, Mr Miano has offered nothing but talk and has failed to support the assertion that all prophecy was fulfilled by the end of the first century. So, i have invited Mr Miano to come over to RCM and argue his case for a fulfillment of I Corinthians 15. After forgetting about the invite, i gently reminded him of it yesterday and now he is here, assuring me…”Don’t you sweat Jason, I will be giving details concerning 1 Corinthiahs 15 soon.” I have created a public group here on RCM for this discussion. VISIT HERE. When Mr Miano is ready, he can begin posting his “details concerning 1 Corinthians 15″ in reply to the text of that chapter that i have provided in the group’s forum. I won’t pressure him to provide anything “soon”, but i hope that as one who supposedly takes “soon” serious that he won’t fudge on the word now. ( : We wait.

I hate littering up this site with filth. Some of you have noticed that I have been conducting an attempt at conversation on Pret Compost Heap. Here is the reaction from Teacher, Leader, Author, Mike Sullivan: Sam, 1) I know what you wrote in HD p. 227-229, “Gentry on this point fails to logically “connect the dots,” because the creeds do not allow him to do so. (One could also lose one’s job for connecting the dots.).” “As for my own personal development…the remaining 10% was easy to finish off.” 2) I specifically remember our phone conversation in which you wanted to teach in a reformed seminary setting but knew you would have to “compromise” like Gentry in order to be creedal to do so. 3) To try and spin your apology/email as you just being guilty of trying to be a nice guy and seeking to be at peace with all men – instead of clearly admitting that you were being the man pleaser we all know you were being and continue to be – is a total joke! 4) Your lies have been documented all over the place. You claiming that you never made the statue remark to Danny Green is also lame. Who are we supposed to believe – someone who has become known for being dishonest and has exhibited nothing but pure arrogance wanting to be known as a “scholar” or Dave’s brother? Uh, that is a no brainer. 5) You have belittled the number of ...

The Bible raises this question in Psalm 8. “What is Man, that you are mindful of him?” God is mindful of man. God made man, formed his body of the dust, and breathed into his nostrils. This “combination” became “a living being.” A “human being.” And, since like was created to make like (apples make apples, kangeroos make kangeroos, gnats make gnats), we human beings make more human beings (with the superintendence of God). Yet, the Bible speaks of “soul”, “spirit”, “heart”, “mind”, “inner man” etc. Inner man. Outer man. Man is inner and outer. Not two men, and inner one and an outer one. But, one man, both inner and outer. The inner man seems to be the causitive seat of activity as performed outwardly by the instrumentation of the body. The outer display of the inner working. Will, or volition, moves the substance of the body on earth to perform the desire of the soul, heart, mind – the inner man. This is where the Gnostics completely dropped the ball (and Plato). For them, the body was the “prison house” from which came all the ills inflicted upon the soul. If it weren’t for the body and its cravings (as if it craves all on its own quite apart from the will of the inner), the “soul” would be just fine. These folks were called the “pneumatikoi” – the Spiritual Ones. The Perfect Ones. They had already been raised (see Gospel of Philip, Nag Hammadi). They were simply ...

I came across an article on the Gospel Coalition website today that contained a brief and wonderful summary of how full preterists treat Scripture. No, the article was not on full preterism. Very few, if any, are; it’s just not that important. Instead, the article was a response from DA Carson and Tim Keller to the Elephant Room fiasco. The Elephant Room, for those of you unaware, is a “conference” of sorts, in which seven highly influential pastors were invited to have “blunt conversations” about their differences. Things got really heated when TD Jakes was invited…a prosperity-gospel, modalist pastor from Texas. While Jakes’ false gospel of health and wealth was ignored, he was cornered about his belief concerning the Trinity. For some, including the moderators of the conversation James McDonald and Mark Driscoll, Jakes affirmed an orthodox understanding of the Trinity. However, for many, his “affirmation” was not enough. It was too vague and created more questions than answers. This in turn has led to a ton of blog fights. The whole thing, in my opinion, is sad. Even if Jakes unquestionably affirmed the Trinity, that would not be enough to embrace this false teacher. I seriously question the motives for having the whole “conversation” to begin with. The whole idea, in my opinion, is just silly and resembles some over-dramatic MTV “celebrity boxing” match. It has that “reality show” feel that just bugs the crap out of me. But, i was interested in reading from Carson. And it was in ...

Review: “Another Look at Chilton’s Days of Vengeance, Journey3:2 (March-April, 1988) [I am indebted to Paul Gates for bringing this up in the discussion here with "Adam", a fellow seminarian: http://www.preteristblog.com/?p=5570#comment-15594 - Sam. By Greg Bahnsen The revival of Biblical postmillennialism which we are witnessing in our day will be sustained only if it is fueled and fortified by diligent attention to the Scriptures. That is what makes so noteworthy a major publication of a commentary on the book of Revelation, such as David Chilton’s The Days of Vengeance (Ft. Worth: Dominion Press, 1987). The author devotes nearly 600 pages to exposing the text and theology of this “closed book,” and we must appreciate his labors—as well as the generosity of Dr. North in subsidizing them. Since the study of Revelation is a special interest of mine, I am often asked for a brief evaluation of David Chilton’s commentary. This issue of Journey affords the opportunity to reply once in writing (saving personal repetition). Because the author and I are friends, because we share a common eschatological perspective, and because he sat through a year of my sixty-five lectures on Revelation (delivered a decade ago), many assume that his approach to Revelation is something I would commend. The reviewer in Journey (Nov-Dec 1987) saw it as “sound” biblical interpretation, indeed “a brilliant work.” Reluctantly, I cannot share either assessment. Here let me suggest another look. There are, unquestionably, many encouraging and helpful things about David’s commentary. First, it is a ...

Brown. “No religion has emphasized faith and the necessity of holding right doctrine more than Christianity” (9). “Theology…is to a large extent a reaction against heresy. But heresy…is to a large attempt a response to truth” (9). Let us note this. “[Heresy] is a response to truths imperfectly understood, taken out of context, or perceived as inadequate or unsatisfying.” But, heresy “presupposes” truth. Brown asks, which came first, the heresy, or the truth? Obviously, the truth. Heresy is a reaction. In turn, theology reacts to the heresy. Let’s put this in practical terms. The resurrection of the dead was unequivocally taugh in NT times, and from the earliest records we have of late first to second century Chistianity-in-ascedency it was bodily (I agreed with this fact when I was a hyper preterist). So, what was the reaction? Gnosticism. And, the church that was rising in terms of its growth and spread was “orthodoxy”. The Gnostics died out after a century. Oh, it’s reared its head through the centuries, but it cannot rise against the Church. Now, let’s look at the other point of Brown. “Heresy is a response to truths imperfectly understood, taken out of context, or perceived as inadequate or unsatisfying.” That is, heresy plays on the imperfections of orthodoxy, it’s imprecision in terms, or its “perceived” inconsistency. It claims to come up ...

Selah. Hyper Preterist Mike Sullivan writes, “ I asked Hank H. and his assistant where in the OT was a literal fleshly resurrection was taught at the end of history. His assistant was honest and said the OT didn’t. Hank claimed Daniel 12:2 was the only text. I reminded him that this was the text I gave him a question on (at the studio on air – just an hour ago) that he said he wouldn’t answer but would privately after the show (which was when we were talking). So I asked him again, “If Daniel 12:2 is a fleshly resurrection at the end of time, how is it grammatically and contextually not apart of the “all things” of verse 7 that would be fulfilled in AD 70? How are all of these other things fulfilled in AD 70 except this one?” He again couldn’t answer the question – on air or in private.” Hank Hanegraf, that bastion of theological thought! But, let’s ask Jesus what texts he would use for resurrection: “And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: 35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: 36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. 37 Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at ...

I have been chatting with Ed Stevens lately, and found this post at Pret Compost. Now, as you know, we have been in a mud slinging battle for quite some time. But, rarely, some interesting points come out of there. These had to do with Ron Paul. First, the video from Full Preterist Pastor, Dave Curtis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Q42OY-WsAw He’s for Ron Paul. Now, the response from Dave Green: “Consistent, classical, Koranic Muslims hate us because we will not submit to Islam. One of the goals of Islam is the violent destruction of ALL who will not submit to the planetary domination of Islam. The idea that if we just leave them alone then they’ll be okay and start minding their own business is incredibly naive. America has been attacked by Muslims since its founding. If we withdraw from the world, Islamo Fascism will spread rapidly like Nazism did. As a result we’ll eventually be forced into WWIII because of our inaction and appeasement.” Ouch. Finally, and in order, the reply by Ed Stevens: “Followers of Ron Paul are ignoring and undermining the very ideas that made this country great in the first place. Glenn Beck on his excellent www.GBTV.com internet TV program has clearly shown repeatedly over the past two years that the isolationist policies of people like Ron Paul will disarm us, weaken our military, and leave us totally vulnerable to the global Caliphate (worldwide Sharia Law) agenda of the radical Muslims. Ron Paul is an “isolationist,” undercover Jew hater, and has ...

Here is an excerpt from my upcoming book on Adam and the role he plays in biblical theology: “Finally, I should mention Hebr 2.6-ff wherein we find the author quoting Ps 8. This psalm is widely regarded as a creation song rooted in Gn. The contrast that is set up between Jesus and mankind at present (v.8) is that Jesus has fulfilled this psalm as Man. Though Adam is not explicitly mentioned, he necessarily looms in the background. This psalm indicates the original intention for mankind. However, “at present, we do not see everything subject to him”. “Him” has as its antecedent, “man” in v.7. “But we see Jesus” who has fulfilled the role originally given to Adam, and now lost, as it is, presently. That the psalm was not meant to be taken exclusively for Jesus is made plain in the following verses. The psalm mentions “son of man” (son of adam in Hebrew), and the author states, “In bringing many sons to glory…” (v.10). The mention of “glory” comes, again, from the psalm: “you have crowned him with glory and honor.” Jesus suffers “death” for all (v.9) and this directly links us to the fall of Adam and the entrance of death (as well as his triumph over temptation from the devil – vv.14-18). Through “resurrection” the man, Christ Jesus, is crowned with glory and honor. Bringing many sons to glory, then, means what it meant for Christ: dominion over creation through resurrection. Ultimate restoration of creation and ...

Here’s a little testimony i wrote out for an individual who asked me how the Lord delivered me from the error of full/hyper preterism. But first, I wish you would bear with me in a little foolishness. Do bear with me! (2 Co. 11:1) For those of you who don’t know me, i embraced the full preterist framework (all prophecy was fulfilled by ad70) in late 2002 and went on to aid Sam Frost as the techie guy behind Christ Covenant Church, which in 2006 turned into The Reign of Christ Ministries (RCM) after CCC folded up; as well as created SGP with Michael Bennett. I’m still running RCM, but left SGP over two years ago. I have also created sites for Ward Fenley’s NCMI, Jim Kessler, and Michael Sullivan. I came close to becoming Don Preston’s webmaster after Scott left, but that didn’t work out. (i don’t even remember why) I only mention all of this because some have tried to easily dismiss my renouncement of full preterism by pointing out that i was not a major player to begin with. That may be true, but they certainly didn’t think so when i was helping them out. ( : My involvement with many, especially at SGP, also gave me plenty of opportunity to learn what was going on with the online full pret community. When i was moderating SGP, it became the most active full preterist spot on the net (on life-support now) and because of our strict rules there, i literally ...

As a political junkie, I have been following the Republican debates since they started. I get it from my mom, who got it from the Bible. I am no “two kingdoms” advocate (for a great new book by John Frame, see The Escondido Theology, Whitefield Media Publications – it’s selling like hotcakes). I am an advocate of “lesser of two evils” thinking, but that is another blog. The process of finding a Nominee is messy. It sounds like a theological battle in terms of similarity. Don’t be mean. Don’t publish “attack” adds. I found the answer by Ron Paul tonight to be quite amusing. When asked about attack ads (particularly on Santoram), he was asked if he had issue with that? His answer? The 30 or 60 seconds ads was not enough space to cram in all that he wants to say! In other words, if in reporting the facts is an attack, then attack away! Jesus did. I have been on record for saying I like trench warfare. I recently took my strapping young boys to War Horse. Good movie. The WWI trench battle scenes don’t come close to the actual horrible situation trench warfare was. It was deplorable. And, that got me to thinking, what’s wrong with this process? Does “kindness” mean, “don’t speak the truth”? Of course, people stress, “in love”. Yes, of course. Jesus said to the Pharisees, “in love”, that they were a brood of vipers. Name calling? You bet. The seriousness of that name ...

Well, the Iowa Caucus is in. I usually don’t write political pieces, but hell, this one is shaping up to be a good political fight. As a student of history – American History – this is nothing new. The media, so prone to thinking that our time is somehow unique, lives in a bubble. Political infighting, mudslinging, name calling, etc., has always been a part of the deal. And it should be. I only want the man (or woman) who survives such scrutiny to emerge to the top. It’s a hell of a battle. It’s not pretty. The slightest gaff, the littlest miss-speak, the tiniest historical inaccuracy (“where is Greenland located?”) gets blown up. And, since every politcian has made them (can you spell, “potato”, Mr. Quayle?), every politician will jump on them when you do make them. 30 second ads. Okay. So, with watching the news as a dog in heat looking at fifi across the street, we have Rick “huh?” Santorum. Mitt Romney. Newtonian Physics. And, Ron “tin foil hat” Paul. Paul can’t seem to escape the label of “kook”. Limbaugh, Levin, Hannity, Beck, none of them like him. My mother, a staunch Republican, thinks he is “nuts”. And she drinks news like she does coffee. How did he get this tag? Now, I, an investigator, actually go to Paul’s website and read. I like what I read. Then I dig around a little more. I don’t like what I read. Paul appears to me like a whiner. ...

While on Facebook yesterday, i stumbled upon yet another thread where a hyperpreterist was ranting and raving about Sam and i. It never ceases to amaze me how some hyperpreterists will whine about being called names, yet a week doesn’t go by where i can’t do a little surfing, just on Facebook alone, and see my name being trashed all over the place…coming from people i have little to no interaction with at all. That was the unfortunate part. But, what some intended for harm, God caused for good. As a result of the “exposure”, a hyperpreterist messaged me, expressed an open mind, and asked a sincere question about Luke 21.22. For those of you unfamiliar with this verse, here it is: …for these are days of vengeance, to fulfill all that is written. (Luke 21.22 ESV) Let’s expand the context a bit: But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has come near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, and let those who are inside the city depart, and let not those who are out in the country enter it, for these are days of vengeance, to fulfill all that is written. Alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! For there will be great distress upon the earth and wrath against this people. They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive among all nations, and Jerusalem ...

To start off the new year, i have added a new discussion group: Questions and Answers. Occasionally, folks will have questions for us but are hesitant to ask because the only place, until now, to ask the question is in the comments section following an article; and if that question doesn’t fit with the topic of the article, the question is withheld. The Q&A group is a place for you to ask those “off topic” questions. As a reminder: This group, along with all our groups, is private. Another reason why a few folks hesitate with public discussions is because they know that sites like PretCompost exist, merely for the purpose of slinging poo on people. A private group offers a place for mature discussion and hides the content from those who spend the vast majority of their lives lurking around here, yanking quotes out of content, and putting their ridiculous spin on everything. You will be less likely to see your name trashed by having your discussion in these groups. But, if you don’t care what they are doing (and you shouldn’t), then feel free to use the comments section as usual. We’re flexible. ( : Joining a group is free and all you have to do is create an account. REGISTER. Once you register, visit the Q&A group page and request membership. That’s it! Enjoy!

Well, it’s been an interesting year, no doubt. You have witnessed the slow move from Full Preterism to a full orbed orthodox view. I tried to hang on at first to Full Preterism as much as I could. Even my earlier attempts of “squaring” things were fraught with difficulties. But, I was convinced of four things: the Bible taught an end of history; the resurrection of the dead is, indeed, bodily; we we will see Jesus in his incarnate body again; and he shall reign over all creation, visibly. The Christian Church has not always taught these essential aspects of eschatology with clarity. The situation of the history of eschatology can be summed up in the conversation with two questions: What is fulfilled? What is yet unfulfilled? Full Preterism, I have come to conclusion, is extreme in its answer: it was all fulfilled. Forms of Dispensationalism are equally extreme: it is wholly future. Scholarship, unequivocally, has decided that the conversation is best held in-between these two extreme points. I think that is the wisest decision. We have accomplished and grown this year beyond what we originally expected. Many of you have expressed great thanks for us being honest enough to preach our convictions without the fear of our former associations within the Full Preterist movement’s criticisms. We knew they would come. We did not expect the ferocity, however. Not all FP’s were this way. But, some of them were and continue to be. I have never doubted my faith since ...

You can’t have a conversation, or even begin one with the hyperpreterist, without the word “near” coming into play at the outset. It was the great hook of that system that snagged and reeled me in for so many years. I just could not “get around” them and remain “consistent”. And, if you had a final coming after the “coming” in AD 70, then you were a man pleaser, a creed worshipper, a greedy coward, or an inconsistent moron (a good description of the “futurist” church, eh?). The word “near” according to the Friberg Lexicon, is an “adverb; (1) of space near, close to (JN 3.23); absolutely close by, near at hand, neighboring (JN 19.42); (2) of time near, imminent, close (MT 26.18); (3) figuratively, of close or intimate relationship near, close to (EP 2.17).” Note the distinctions. “Space” and “time”. My sink is “near” me. New Year Eve is “near”. Which one is “space” and the other, “time”? Louw-Nida makes the same distinction. BAGD and virtually all of the standards make the same distinction. So, the question for the interpreter becomes, “which is it? Near in terms of “space” or “time”? For example, “”Now the Jewish Passover was near….” Clearly, time is meant here. But, take the verbal form of this word, as found in Mk 1.15: “the time has come. The kingdom is near”. Morna Hooker can ask whether “present” or “imminence” is meant (The Gospel According to Mark). It could go either way, in that Dodd (Parables ...

It is always interesting to track links to our site and check out what people are saying. I came across this gem tonight on Facebook by the “Preterist Voice” Allyn Morton, who is responding to Sam’s latest piece on the “body” of Christ: On Reign of Christ, Sam Frost says in an article, and I quote, “We have already proven on this site that the Bible teaches that Jesus retains his body of incarnation, glorified, in the heavens (I John 4.2; Phil 3.21). Full Preterism denies the doctrine of Christ’s present humanity in that they deny his current glorification, bodily.” Does any preterist really believe that the body od Christ did not rise and come out of the tomb? Does and preterist deny “his(sic) current glorification, bodily”? This innaccurate article, similar to many of Sam Frost’s articles, really shows that he did not qualify in the first place as a 19 year pin full preterist. Sam goes on to say that we (therefore) get rid of the body of Christ by spiritualizing His coming. If the second coming of Christ was indeed an unseen, thus spiritual coming, then it is not full preterism who is in denial but rather Sam Frost. Sam then says, “Full Preterism denies that we will see the bodily presence of Jesus, or that he (sic) will, one day, descend bodily.” Actually Full Preterism denies that the event is a future to us event. Does that help you, Sam? In the past 12 months that we have ...

Roderick “bonehead” Edwards recently wrote on Pret Compost this little item: What REAL Clarkians say about Talbot and WTS On Facebook there is a group of Clark advocates and here are just a few comments said about Talbot and Talbot’s seminary, WTS. Now remember, these quotes come from avowed Clarkians; not us meanie people who supposedly just don’t like Sam and Talbot because they have never invited us to have burritos. 1. Whitefield Theological Seminary is not really a seminary. It’s a correspondence institution with no in residence programs and a very small faculty. It’s not even accredited by any denomination or educational board. 2. Basically, Sam Frost was a full preterist because he thinks Christianity is about social change and social transformation. That’s not the point of the Gospel at all. 3. I do know a little about Whitefield Seminary. It’s not a seminary at all. 4. In short, Ken Talbot is a two faced dissimulating, equivocating liar…. :) 5. He [Talbot] is most certainly not a Clarkian no matter what he says. Theonomists are notorious liars. They will say whatever they think will win you to their side. 6. Talbot falsely claims to be Clarkian. I can say unequivocally that all theonomists are Van Tilians. It’s beyond ludicrous for Talbot to claim to be a Clarkian….. 7. I wouldn’t trust Talbot as far as I could throw him. 8. The reason Talbot can compromise with heretics is that he is a theonomist, which by definitiion means that he is an ecumenicalist first and a Reformed Christian second… I guess Talbot is only “respected” by ...

Folks, if you are looking for a great resource on creation issues from someone with an actual PhD in Astronomy, please check out John Byl’s blog, Bylogos. It is fantastic. Here is a guy who sticks to his guns regarding the authority of Scripture, and can tackle the “scientists” at their level. Here’s a quote from his recent post: One difficulty, according to Carrier, is that Christians try to make the Bible untestable by suitably re-interpreting the Bible so as to avoid any possible risk of scientific disproof. Thus we get hermeneutical inventions such as old Earth creationism, theistic evolution, or the notion that Gen.1-11 is meant to convey a purely theological message. Carrier comments, “Supernaturalists now make every effort to place their beliefs beyond meaningful test precisely because their beliefs have failed countless tests—indeed, most have been decisively refuted. This is evidence of the desperation of their position but not of the untestability of more honest supernatural claims.“ I think that Carrier is quite correct in this observation. The proper apologetic response is not to subvert the plain meaning of the biblical text–as many modern theologians are prone to do–but, rather, to challenge the naturalist interpretation of the empirical evidence. http://bylogos.blogspot.com/2011/12/naturalist-meltdown.html Bookmark this site!

Remember what Thomas Brooks said about false teachers? THE SECOND CHARACTER False teachers are notable in casting dirt, scorn, and reproach upon the persons, names, and credits of Christ’s most faithful ambassadors. Thus Korah, Dathan, and Abiram charged Moses and Aaron that they took too much upon them, seeing all the congregation was holy (Num. 16:3). You take too much state, too much power, too much honour, too much holiness upon you; for what are you more than others, that you take so much upon you? And so Ahab’s false prophets fell foul on good Micaiah, paying of him with blows for want of better reasons (1 Kings 22:10-26). Yea, Paul, that great apostle of the Gentiles, had his ministry undermined and his reputation blasted by false teachers: “For his letters”‘ say they, “are weighty and powerful, but his bodily presence is weak and contemptible” (2 Cor. 10:10). They rather contemn him than admire him; they look upon him as a dunce rather than a doctor. And the same hard measure had our Lord Jesus from the Scribes and Pharisees, who laboured as for life to build their own credit upon the ruins of his reputation. And never did the devil drive a more full trade this way than he does in these days (Matt. 27:63). Oh! the dirt, the filth, the scorn that is thrown upon those whom the world is not worthy. I suppose false teachers mind not that saying of Austin, Quisquis volens detrahit famae, nolens addit ...

“But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come; Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die: and that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be but bare grain, it may chance of wheat or of some other grain but God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.”—1 Corinthians 15:35-38. We preach with words; God preacheth to us in acts and deeds. If we would but perceive it, creation and providence are two continual sermons, streaming from the mouth of God. The seasons are four evangelists, each of them having his testimony to utter to us. Doth not summer preach to us of God’s bounty, of the richness of his goodness, of that lavish munificence with which he has been pleased to supply the earth, not simply with food for man, but with delights for both ear and eye in the beauteous landscape the melodious birds, and the flowers of various hue? Have you never heard the still small voice of autumn, who bears the wheatsheaf, and whispers to us in the rustling of the seer leaf? He bids us prepare to die. “All we,” saith he, “do fade as a leaf, and all our righteousnesses are but as filthy rags.” Then comes winter, crowned with snow, and he thunders out a most mighty sermon, which, if we would but listen to it, might ...

One of the things I am looking at is Isaiah65.17-ff. “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. 18 But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a joy, and her people to be a gladness. 19 I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in my people; no more shall be heard in it the sound of weeping and the cry of distress. 20 No more shall there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not fill out his days, for the young man shall die a hundred years old, and the sinner a hundred years old shall be accursed. 21 They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. 22 They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be, and my chosen shall long enjoy1 the work of their hands. 23 They shall not labor in vain or bear children for calamity,1 for they shall be the offspring of the blessed of the LORD, ...

Here are two Full Preterists and how they approach their view in comparison with evil “futurism” (Historic, orthodox Christianity). The first one was posted on Facebook by Jerry Bowers: “Fulfilled Eschatology has been the most hated, suppressed, distorted & violently opposed message that’s in the Bible. Why? Because Fulfilled Eschatology loosens the shackles that our slave masters (the Controllers) have placed on mankind since the 1st century. Religion has always been a tool used by secular government to better control the masses. Fulfilled Eschatology is the key that unlocks those shackles and frees us from the bondage of Religious & Secular Government control. Both Religion & Secular Government are hell-bent on creating a 1 world order system whereby mankind can only live, survive & prosper, under the most tyrannical powers. It is only when we refuse to allow Religion & Secular Governments these powers, that we can enjoy our God given rights of freedom, peace, personal property, equality & unity. Fulfilled Eschatology is more than what happened in the 1st century; it’s what it’s meant ever since, and points back to the beginning when all was as it was designed to be. Join us in bringing back the everlasting message that we are as God designed, and not what we have been programmed to believe through this temporal creation known as mankind.” Uh huh. The next one was sent to me by Dan Delagrave: “I watched the video again by Jason “what in the world was I thinking” Bradfield, and ...

We hear often from the hyperpreterists* that the futurists** are arbitrary and inconsistent when it comes to teaching that there will be a future, bodily return of Christ. I used to say the same thing. In fact, that was my main point of contention against the “futurists” in an “Acts 1.11″ lecture i gave at a hyperpreterist conference in Bristol, CT back in August of 2006. I shake my head when listening to that lecture now. Standard hyperpreterist fare. Step 1: Immediately leave the verse in question and bring up all the “time texts”. “But Jesus said over here that his coming was soon” and “Jesus said over here ‘this generation.’” Step 2: Argue that there is only one “coming” spoken of in the New Testament. And, when this “coming” happens, the totality of what that coming was to accomplish would happen all at once. Step 3: Go back to the verse in question and squeeze it into the box created from steps 1 & 2. That is how 99% of hyperpreterism is argued. And what helped bring me out of hyperpreterism was realizing that not everything can fit in the ad70 box. Are ‘futurists’ really arbitrary and inconsistent or does ‘futurism’ exist because there is an attention to finer details, of which hyperpreterists ignore? Let’s do a simple lesson. We seem to have a contradiction on our hands at first glance regarding the presence of Christ. First, in Matthew 28, Christ issues forth what is commonly called the Great Commission: Now the ...

Back in my hyperpreterist days, a friend gifted me with G.K. Beale’s book The Temple and the Church’s Mission. I thought it was a great read. Strangely however, the overarching purpose of creation that is explained in the book never settled in my mind. As i did with so many orthodox writings back then, i read, enjoyed, and even tried to implement some of the doctrine into my hyperpreterist framework; not understanding that if these doctrines were in fact true, hyperpreterism was completely demolished. I reread Beale’s book shortly after renouncing hyperpreterism and, well, now i get it. While i do not agree with every conclusion Beale reaches, i do agree with that overarching purpose. In June, i took a trip down to Punta Gorda, Belize and did a two hour summary of the first half of the book at the Belize Training Center. When i returned, a few buddies of mine asked me to elaborate a little on the summary. The following is a post i wrote for them. While it is certainly not a full review of the book, i thought i would repost it here to perhaps whet your appetite. Ironically, this book has made its rounds in hyperpreterist circles and has been praised; but they – like i once did – are missing the huge elephant in the room. Although Beale does not claim to be a postmillennialist, what he argues in that book is what postmills like Chilton and Gentry have been saying for a long ...

In this episode of the MinionDominion podcast, Jason finishes the introduction of Samuel Waldron's book A Modern Exposition of the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith, regarding the legitimate use of confessions. Enjoy!

Paul Gates of Preterist Blog has written a tremendous article. He alerted me to a verse that I never caught before. I have not noticed this until today. Let me state a little background. While a Full Preterist, I denied that Jesus retained his incarnate body. That is, the man, Christ Jesus, who ascended into heaven, somehow “shed” his incarnate body and was absorbed again into the Godhead. The reasoning was obvious since I held to a “corporate body view” of resurrection. If Jesus retained (and still retains) the body of his incarnation, now glorified in heaven where it remains, the problems for my Full Preterism this would cause were unthinkable. Since I have left Full Preterism, I have engaged in a study of the Incarnation and its relationship to the “human nature” of Christ. “Human nature” is defined as that union that comes from body and soul. This is the way it was applied in the trinitarian formulations over against the Gnostics and the Doceticists. Jesus’ “body of glory” (Phil 3.21) is his current glorified body of his incarnation. This is the definition of “glorification.” Paul Gates has found I John 4.2,3 which reads, “Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God.” Now it may be argued that the Full Preterist does not deny that Jesus ...

That Satan labours might and main, by false teachers, which are his messengers and ambassadors, to deceive, delude, and for ever undo the precious souls of men (Acts 20:28-30; 2 Cor. 11:13-15; Eph. 4:14; 2 Tim. 3:4-6; Titus 1:11,12; 2 Peter 2:18,19): “I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err” (Jer. 23:13). “The prophets make my people to err” (Micah 3:5). They seduce them, and carry them out of the right way into by-paths and blind thickets of error, blasphemy, and wickedness, where they are lost forever. “Beware of false prophets, for they come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves” (Mat. 7:15). These lick and suck the blood of souls: “Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision” (Phil. 3:2). These kiss and kill; these cry, Peace, peace, till souls fall into everlasting flames, &c., Proverbs 7. Now, the best way to deliver poor souls from being deluded and destroyed by these messengers of Satan is, to discover them in their colors, that so, being known, poor souls may shun them, and fly from them as from hell itself. Now you may know them by these characters following: THE FIRST CHARACTER False teachers are men-pleasers (Gal. 1:10; 1 Thess. 2:1-4). They preach more to please the ear than to profit the heart: “Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophecy no unto us right things: speak ...

I would like to promote a “free for all” website ran and founded by Ken Palmer, a former Full Preterist. Palmer was a vocal adherent of Full Preterism, and, as many of you might know, we went “at it” before he left. Over the last few weeks, Ken has proved endearing to me, and his friendship is a welcome to our endeavors. We wish him nothing but success. The website is here: http://covenantpreterism.ning.com/ I have chosen our site, RCM, and this one to interact with Full Preterists who may have questions concerning our departure. Sovereign Grace Preterism does not welcome me, and I can’t seem to “sign on” Death is Defeated. Both are “NING” sites, and I miss that interaction. Although our purposes are different here than from Covenant Preterism’s site, I believe they can both serve as an oasis/challenge to those who are Full Preterists, and those considering leaving that paradigm. It’s an honor to work with Ken. It is our prayer that many Full Preterists come out of that stifling movement and come to see the full realization of the things God has purposed in His Church unto the last day of temporal history.

Introduction1 Scripturalism is a world and life view. A worldview is a set of beliefs about the various issues of life. All persons have worldviews; they are inescapable. One’s worldview will determine how he views the entirety of life, the decisions he makes, why he does what he does, and so forth. And all worldviews have presuppositions which govern their system of belief; these presuppositions function as axioms from which all decisions are deduced. Scripturalism is that system of belief in which the Word of God is foundational in the entirety of one’s philosophical and theological dealings. (2). This system of thought avers that Christians should never try to combine secular and Christian notions. Rather, all thoughts are to be brought into captivity to the Word of God (2 Corinthians 10:5), which is (a part of) the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16). Our minds must be transformed “to prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God,” as found in Scripture (Romans 12:2), i.e., our thoughts must progressively become God’s thoughts (Isaiah 55:6-9), which divine thoughts are only known by the Word of God. Scripturalism, then, teaches that all of our knowledge is to be derived from the Bible, which has a systematic monopoly on truth. This approach to a Christian worldview is taught by the Apostle Paul and is confirmed by the teachings of the Westminster Standards (3). In the words of the apostle: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for ...

String together Calvin, cite Beale and Carson, throw in a little Hodge and Clarke, add some Lightfoot and oila, you get Full Preterism when you put it all together, right? Ever hear that argument before? It was one of my favorites. Ed Stevens and I hashed about the idea of stringing together hundreds of quotes from scholars, past and present, and the Fathers to show that every view of Full Preterism could be shown by such a presentation. Sure, no one of them taught Full Preterism, but put them all together, and you get justification for Full Preterism. Here was the point: Full Preterism was not invented by us, we are just the first ones to put it all together. Hence, the frequent “cut and paste” jobs. The frequent “here’s a quote from Scholar X and Dictionary Y” – see, we Full Preterists aren’t heretics. On the gullible, such as myself, this was a powerful argument and demonstration. What does it prove, though, when looked at from former Full Preterist eyes (which I now own)? Nothing. It proves that you can string together a bunch of quotes into a presupposed box. It shows that orthodox eschatology is not quite in agreement on the details of what they all are in agreement with in the essentials. It shows that where one scholar may say, AD 70, another says, End of the World. Where one scholar has Dan 12.2 at the end of the world, another one has it in Paul’s generation. But, ...

Chatted with Dr. Gentry, and with his permission, I will publish a PDF he sent to me. First, the email I sent him reads: Dr. Gentry, I will brief. First off, blessings to you and yours. I hope all is well. I am in good health. It is floating around hyper-preterist circles that your use of “mello” in Rev 1.19 means you “insist” on this translation as a “necessity.” Your quote from BJFell is “Certainly it is true that the verb “mello” can indicate simply “destined,” or it can be employed in a weakened sense as a periphrasis for the future tense. Nevertheless, when used with the aorist infinitive – as in Revelation 1:19 – the word’s preponderate usage and preferred meaning is: “be on the point of, be about to” 141. However, I have been arguing that they are not paying attention to your careful wording. “Preponderate” and “preferred” are words of possibility, not necessity. Context determines. They want to use this same construction for Acts 24.15, quoting Young’s LT, “that there is about to be a resurrection….” and Acts 17.31, “God, who is about to judge the world.” The former is present infinitive with future (esesthai). I am arguing that context determines translation. My question is, does your quote here support the “necessity” of translation? One can still argue a classic Preterist view in Rev 3.19 with translations that do not have “about to” in it. Thanks. Samuel Frost To which he responded: Sam: Thanks for your note. ...

He’ll take saints up to heaven And leave sinners to doom.” The flock sat quite still In their pews they were frozen, Praying and hoping They’re one of the chosen. “The rapture is coming Where saints will take flight. Sam Frost: “It was one of repentance. . . . My colleagues, the closest ones around me, Jason Bradfield has since left and then there’s been about 25 others that have left.” ———————– “In Talbot shall all be made alive.
